Mythical Beings

Mythical beings are forms where different parts of animals, humans, or nature are combined into one creature, form, or being. These beings are usually inspired by literature, folklore or religious belief. Therefore, they are the most challenging and perhaps the most profound of any art form. I have created many of these mythical beings, inspired mostly by stories in literature or religion, or by observing nature.
The inspiration for my latest project, the 10 foot bronze Saint Francis in Assizi, Italy, came to me in the form of a large dried leaf I found walking in the woods. It suggested a man with arms outstretched in praise and joy. This image became a symbol of transformation for me. As this saint has said, "Where there is hatred, let me bring love, where there is injury, pardon, where there is doubt, true faith."
