The images from Rants and Rituals were made
with a very large self made pinhole camera. The transformative power of
this camera lends an element of surprise and unpredictability in the
image making process that is seductive to me. It also allows for less
description and more suggestion. Conventional photography’s descriptive
powers have often been an obstacle that I have had to find ways to work
around.
These images portray both personal psychological states and symbolic
rituals, the meanings of which remain a mystery to me. Rants and Rituals continues the darkly surrealistic sensibility of my previous project, Remnants of Identity.
