Although
each photograph in this body of work may carry its own specific
meaning, the project as a whole is primarily about identity in the most
elemental sense. Some of these beings are attempting to emerge into
the world, struggling for definition. Others wish to cloak their identity
or live in a purgatory of half formed selves. In the case of the burning
figures, they seek to destroy their identity and recede from physical
existence.
Perhaps these images attempt to shed light on the fragility
of our temporal presence. The series Dark Eros stands somewhat
apart thematically from the rest of Ephemeral Beings. Perhaps the connection
between this series and the other three is that the erotic force is
the physical realm and can be seen as an antidote to the fear which
accompanies the knowledge of our fragile physical existence. |
